Plaster is the most common wall finish, but there are other wall finishes that can add character to your home. Your choice will not just depend on the style of the room, but the purpose of the space as well. Speak to your builder on how you might be able to incorporate these different wall finishes in your home.

Timber walls

A timber wall can make a fantastic accent wall. If you want to make a space in your home feel cosy, such as a bedroom, this can be achieved by creating horizontal bands on a wall. On the other hand, vertical timber bands can draw attention upwards, making a space feel bigger. Additionally, you can go for all timber walls to create texture and trim highlights. This is especially true for period homes.

Concrete walls

If you want a space to shine, then limit your furnishings and let the textural qualities of the space set the mood. Concrete on the ceiling and floor give a home an industrial feel without feeling too cluttered.

Stone walls

What if you want the outside to come inside? You could actually bring the material inside as a substitute to the plasterboard. Contrasted with plain plaster walls, a textured stone wall can make a great accent in spaces like the kitchen.

Upholstered

Upholstering an entire wall in a fabric of choice will lift the space to a new dimension. It not only makes for a dramatic and luxurious backdrop, but its sound absorbing qualities are especially useful.

Chalkboard

How do you stop kids from drawing on your plaster wall? Substitute that plaster wall with a material that will allow your kids to be creative. A  chalkboard paint finish is a creative solution that the entire family can enjoy.
