Trends are just that–trendy, and as quickly as they arrive and take over our Instagram and Pinterest feeds, so too can they be overdone. Whether you’re renovating or planning a new build, there may be some trends in the past year or two currently in your home. Now would be a great time to replace these trends for more current or timeless features.
White on white
White walls are timeless, but too much white can look stark and clinical. It may be time to say goodbye to a room with white walls, floors, fixtures and furniture. You can keep your white walls as a blank canvas and bring warmth into your space using colourful pieces that are filled with character.
Millennial pink
The pale blush tone has been a fun trend, from paint to tiles to upholstery. However, it’s time to swap out this bold colour for a different palette. Try being inspired by bringing the outdoors in, and opt instead for sandy neutrals, browns and stunning shades of green.
Shades of grey
Greys and white with a cool undertone of black and blue tend to look a bit sterile and cold. If you’re still drawn to neutrals, opt for warmer whites that are a more classic and welcoming choice.
Geometric shapes
There was definitely a time when every DIY-lover painted some form of geometric shape across their wall. However, this year, it’s all about organic shapes and curves. Whether it’s chubby chairs, curved shower screens, or in architecture, opt for organic shapes wherever possible.
Copper and rose gold accents
An abundance of copper and rose gold accents has reached its high point. The good news is replacing your taps and handles is relatively easy to do, and nothing says classic quite like polished chrome silver and gold brass. These finishes have stood the test of time and they’re not going anywhere fast.
