Updating your home’s lighting may not seem as exciting as fresh paint or new flooring, but optimal lighting can drastically improve any room. Your lighting ideas should be one of the first things you need to ready in the early stages of your build or renovation plans. This way your builder and electrician can figure out the wiring. As you’re plotting how to best light your home, here are some common lighting mistakes to avoid.
Dark kitchen counters
Many kitchens suffer from having more light shining on the floor than on countertops where it’s needed most. Have well-positioned pendant lamps and lights under cupboards installed so work areas in the kitchen are properly lit.
Unflattering bathroom vanity lighting
When placing lights in the bathroom, make sure not to position any above the mirror. This creates harsh and unflattering shadows. Instead, you want lights at face level, such as on the sides of a mirror.
Too bright lights
Our eyes adjust all day long and our lighting should too. Add dimmers and controls to get the most out of your lighting and set the right mood for the right time.
Energy inefficient lights
LED lights are a great option to cut down on electric bills and total lightbulb purchases. They consume less energy and last much longer than the traditional lightbulb. Plus, you can choose your own desired warm or cool lighting tones.
