Gas fireplaces
For minimal fuss and mess, a gas fireplace is the go-to. This type of fireplace doesn’t produce smoke or ash, and comes with convenient features, including remote-control operation, timer and thermostat control. Some styles are even WiFi-connected, so you can switch on the heating from your phone as soon as you get home.
To install a gas fireplace, you will need access to natural or LPG bottled gas. Running costs for gas, especially natural gas, are considerably cheaper than log-burning fires.
Wood-burning fireplaces
For a rustic, natural cosy feel, you may want to go for the classic wood-burning fireplace. This type of heater comes in a range of designs ranging from traditional, country-style stoves to sleek and contemporary ones. They offer sufficient heating as well. A closed stove or fireplace provides more efficient and longer-lasting warmth and more control over heat output than an open fire.
Pod-style fireplaces
A sculptural, pod-style fireplace that hangs from the ceiling tops is not only a space-saver, but can be a stunning focal point for contemporary and modern homes. This type can often swivel as well, giving you plenty of flexibility. Due to this sleek design, they work well beyond living areas, like the bedroom, study, bathroom or an outdoor area.
Electric fireplaces
If you can’t fit in a flue or something less fussy in general, consider an electric fireplace. Electric heaters are available in a number of different formats, including wall-panel heaters, log or pebble flame-effect and smoke-effect fires in mantel suites. They come in a range of different shapes and sizes to suit different room types, and some come with added features such as speakers so you can even stream music.
Ethanol fireplaces
For the more environmentally conscious homeowner, a fireplace that uses bottled fuel made from plant by-products is the ideal choice. This type of fireplace doesn’t need a flue, doesn’t produce smoke or ash, and can be installed just about anywhere you like. Ethanol is also an efficient heat source.
