A beautiful bathroom renovation doesn’t have to cost too much–as long as you know to plan accordingly. Read this guide for tips on how to control the costs of your bathroom layout, materials, fixtures and more.
Plan a layout
Ask your builder for suggestions and opinions as to what might work before you get your heart set on a layout, product or idea that can’t be realised. Likewise, consider the existing plumbing when it comes to the layout. Rearranging the pipes can be pricey and is often unnecessary, so it helps to avoid it if possible.
Cost-effective materials
Use good-quality porcelain tiles instead of natural stone. Technology is so good now, it’s often hard to distinguish between them, and porcelain tiles can be considerably cheaper. Porcelain is also much more durable than natural stone, and less prone to cracking and chipping, and it doesn’t require regular sealing to stop it staining.
Tile smartly
Unless you’re planning a wet room, you don’t need to cover every inch with tile. You can paint the rest of the walls, which means the bathroom can be redesigned more easily in the future, using different colours. When choosing tile material, ceramic tiles are generally cheaper. Imitation tiles can be inexpensive yet will give your bathroom a similar luxury look and feel like the real thing.
LED lighting
Use good-quality LED spotlights for your bathroom. They may cost a little more initially, but will save you on energy bills and you won’t have the inconvenience of constantly changing light bulbs.
